Three MICHELIN-starred restaurants shine in the first MICHELIN Abu Dhabi Guide

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, June 1 /PRNewswire/ —

– Abu Dhabi restaurants make their debut in the MICHELIN Guide with 42 offers for 16 different types of cuisine.
– Three restaurants receive a MICHELIN star and four restaurants a Bib Gourmand.

The MICHELIN Guide Abu Dhabi 2023 is pleased to present the first selection of 42 restaurants in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Three restaurants receive a MICHELIN star for their high-quality cuisine and four restaurants receive a Bib Gourmand for particularly good value for money.

Among the 42 restaurants recognized in the first edition of the MICHELIN Guide Abu Dhabi are Talea by Antonio Guida, awarded a MICHELIN star for its very attractive dinners with “cucina di famiglia” or Italian home cooking; Hakkasan, a restaurant that celebrates traditional Cantonese flavors; and the modern Japanese restaurant 99 Sushi Bar.

“The wonderful variety of cuisine offered by these three restaurants reflects the curiosity of local gourmets and shows how Abu Dhabi welcomes international cultures and allows them to shine at the highest level,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide.

“This selection of the first MICHELIN Abu Dhabi Guide is the beginning of a long journey for a city with unlimited gastronomic potential. Our inspectors discovered a rich variety of cuisines on offer in Abu Dhabi, from creative dishes created by some of the most famous in the world, to the traditional cuisine of the region: the Middle East, Lebanon and of course the Emirates”.

Abu Dhabi, the capital and largest city of the United Arab Emirates, is a melting pot of dishes and cultures. A dynamic hub for sports, arts and culture exchange, the city is emerging as a gastronomic hotspot known for its rich yet diverse culinary scene. This ranges from local Emirati restaurants to luxurious dining rooms.

Three restaurants have been awarded a MICHELIN star

99 Sushi Bar earns a MICHELIN star for its beautifully presented dishes, full of finesse and precision. The main aim of this elegant Japanese restaurant is to emphasize the quality of its ingredients, with modern, delicate and careful touches. Its Spanish owners import most of the seafood from their country; the red shrimp is especially important. Everything runs smoothly here and it’s the ideal place for an intimate dining experience.

Hakkasan’s Abu Dhabi branch is instantly recognizable thanks to its sensual and elegant oriental decor. This Cantonese restaurant, located in the Emirates Palace Hotel, adds another star to the MICHELIN brand by offering customers contemporary classics such as Peking duck or Chilean sea bass with honey, as well as its well-known dim sum, prepared with exceptional.

Talea by Antonio Guida receives a MICHELIN star for its subtle Italian sophistication. Led by Chef Antonio Guida, who has built and consolidated his reputation in Milan, Talea Restaurant celebrates “cucina di famiglia” or home cooking, offering diners simple yet stunning flavors. Purity and joie de vivre are evident in exquisite dishes such as maccheroncelli alla Genovese, Mediterranean guazzetto turbat and tiramisu, which is prepared right in front of the guests’ eyes.

Four establishments that receive a Bib Gourmand

Almayass won over MICHELIN Guide inspectors with its Lebanese and Armenian influences. The original branch was established in Beirut in 1996 and this large Abu Dhabi branch, where the circular booths are the most coveted spots, continues the tradition of offering an extensive and attractive menu of tasty and carefully prepared dishes.

At Beirut Sur Mer you can enjoy Lebanese food right by the sea. This restaurant has been awarded the Bib Gourmand for its classics ranging from mezze to mashawi. Portions here are generous and prices are reasonable. The large, colorful and modern dining room also has a beautiful terrace right on the beach. After a visit to the nearby Louvre Abu Dhabi, it’s the ideal place for a post-cultural refreshment.

Otoro has been awarded a Bib Gourmand by the MICHELIN Guide for its interpretation of modern Japanese cuisine, with signature dishes such as: yellowtail carpaccio, tuna tartare with yuzu sauce and otoro nigiri, just to name a few. It is a large, relaxed space with a special flair.

Tazal’s Mediterranean food, an exciting mix of European influences and Arabic accents, was also awarded a Bib Gourmand. Dishes like Tania ribs and zaatar carp are as delicious as they are original.

Special MICHELIN Guide Awards When MICHELIN Guide inspectors dine, they also keep an eye on experienced wait staff who receive MICHELIN Special Awards. For the first edition of the MICHELIN Guide Abu Dhabi, our inspectors have found three worthy winners.

Service Award: Rawad Hamdan and Team, Li Beirut Restaurant

Our inspectors were warmly welcomed as they dined here. The service that accompanied her dinner evolved in the same way, with the entire team professional and authentic in terms of hospitality: thoroughly attentive, yet relaxed and inviting. While the cooking and view are impressive, the finishing touch is the level of service that makes dining at Li Beirut such a pleasure.

Sommelier Award: Marlon Nuque, Zuma Restaurant

Marlon is a real personality in this lively restaurant, overseeing the extensive and meticulous wine and sake selection. Originally from the Philippines, he changed 90% of the wine list in his first year and keeps customers warm with his charming smile.

Young Chef Award: Luigi Stinga, Restaurant Talea by Antonio Guida

Antonio Guida’s name may be on the door, but he has chosen one of his best protégés to lead this lovely newcomer to Abu Dhabi’s restaurant scene. With a long list of impressive names on his CV such as Don Alfonso, Quattro Passi and Seta, Luigi was a logical choice for the position. His eye for detail, impeccable style, generous concept and natural confidence are also evident in the home-style dishes, which burst with flavour.
