Sometimes people are faced with events that they just can’t let go of. Dark thriller by Dominik Moll (“Im Wald”, “Lemming”) “In der Nacht des 12.” talks about a crime so brutal that investigators can’t let go of it even years after the crime. The first German trailer brings back memories of “Memories of Murderby Bong Joon-ho or David FincherZodiac – Trail of the Killer“.
And that’s what “On the Night of the 12th” is about.
Somewhere in a small town at the foot of the French Alps, a terrible crime takes place on the night of October 12: a young woman is walking home alone from a party. A man follows him – ambushes him, douses him with gasoline, sets him on fire and burns him alive. This animalistic act leaves investigator Yohan (Bastien Bouillon) in charge of the case. Why did the young girl Klara have to die? Was it an act of jealousy? Revenge? Or was it pure coincidence?
With his colleague Marceau (Bouli Lanners), the policeman identifies a number of men – young and old – who had an affair with Clara. All of them could be, because anger, indifference and possessiveness reigned supreme in the relationship. Deep human chasms open up to the two commissioners. But the two investigators were unable to identify a perpetrator. Years pass, but the case just won’t let Yohan go. The policeman must learn to live with the memory of the crime and yet he does not give up the search for the perpetrator.
“On the night of the 12th” begins on January 12, 2023 in German cinemas.
